Gideon Baah will only be able to play for the New York Red Bulls' United Soccer League affiliate after being placed on the injury list for the full duration of the 2017 MLS campaign.

The one-time Ghanaian international suffered a broken tibia in July of last year, and is expected to face another five months on the sidelines.

"After evaluating Gideon's progress, we have made the decision that we think is best," the club's new sporting director Denis Hamlett said in a statement, as quoted by ESPN FC.

"This lets him focus on rehab with our medical staff. Our primary goal is making sure he has the time and resources to return to 100 percent health."

Now that Baah is unavailable for the Red Bulls this season, the Harrison, N.J., franchise can acquire a new player to fill his international roster slot. Hamlett was only named sporting director late last month, but if reports are to be believed, he's already identified a fresh acquisition in Red Bull Salzburg forward Fredrik Gulbrandsen.

"There's potential that we have to add someone; we've been evaluating that one for a while," Red Bulls coach Jesse Marsch told MSG Networks.

"That's probably the one more piece that we need to supplement that position. So we'll see. Right now, Hamlett and our scouts are evaluating what might be next in that spot. Yeah, a lot of work is being put into that."

Marsch's lot welcomes the Colorado Rapids to the Red Bull Arena in Saturday's MLS fixtures.
