Vince Young is officially coming out of retirement to play for the Saskatchewan Roughriders, the club announced Thursday.

Young was drafted third overall out of Texas by the Tennessee Titans in the 2006 NFL Draft and played nine seasons in the league.

Young last took a snap under center in 2011 with the Philadelphia Eagles, and retired from the game in 2014 after stops in Buffalo, Green Bay, and Cleveland.

"The biggest thing is just having the chance to get back into the game. Just to have an opportunity to go back and play football," Young told Jason Reid of ESPN. "I wanted to do it. It's something I've been thinking about for a long time."

"Vince is Vince. He's been as successful as he has been for a reason. I fully expect him to just be Vince," said head coach Chris Jones.

The 33-year-old is expected to challenge Kevin Glenn and Brandon Bridge for the starting position, after Saskatchewan traded Darian Durant to Montreal in January.

"My focus is being the best teammate I can be, and anything I can do in the community off the field," said the former Heisman runner-up.

Saskatchewan finished last in the West with a 5-13 record and is opening Mosaic Stadium this upcoming season.
