TCU's Turpin to miss spring practice for academic reasons

Erich Schlegel / USA TODAY Sports

Electrifying receiver KaVontae Turpin won't participate in TCU spring practice as he works on academics and getting stronger, coach Gary Patterson told Chuck Carlton of the Dallas Morning News.

Turpin, who also returns kicks for the Horned Frogs, is coming off a sophomore campaign in which he caught 30 passes for 295 yards and a touchdown. He added a touchdown on special teams for the second straight year.

The 5-foot-9 speedster missed five games due to injury in 2016, which contributed to his inability to build on a freshman season in which he posted 45 receptions for 649 yards and eight scores.
