Thanks to the magic of Twitter, we are finally getting to see "The Straight-Edge Superstar" and "The Bringer of Rain" go head to head.

Well, tweet to tweet, anyway.

With UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley and Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson set to face off for a second time this Saturday, their respective friends CM Punk and Josh Donaldson somehow ended up exchanging tweets in support of the UFC 209 headliners.

It all began with Wonderboy's MLB star pal saying Woodley avoided a rematch with Thompson because he didn't want to lose his belt:

Woodley secured a majority draw in their first meeting to retain his championship, which the Blue Jays star apparently found unconvincing.

That prompted Punk to jump in to his training partner's defense, explaining that Woodley has simply been hunting bigger fish. Suddenly the two were off to the races:

Donaldson briefly sparred with Wonderboy when the welterweight visited Toronto last December, and there was even talk that Donaldson would help Thompson strap on his UFC hardware should he defeat Woodley (unlikely now, since Donaldson is currently in the middle of spring training).

Punk's loyalty to Woodley can be attributed to the fact the champ spent time helping the former WWE superstar prepare for his ill-fated MMA debut at UFC 203.
