Kansas blitzes Oklahoma in final 10 minutes for epic comeback win

Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

Monday afternoon, Kansas was crowned by the Associated Press as the new No. 1 team in the top-25 poll.

The Jayhawks celebrated that distinction by promptly getting blown off the court for the first 30 minutes of Monday's game against Oklahoma.

The Sooners, shockingly, had a 12-point lead with ten minutes to play, and then Kansas remembered it was No. 1 in the country and Oklahoma is the worst team in the Big 12.

Here's how the Jayhawks ripped off a 31-9 run to end the contest and send the faithful at Phog Allen Fieldhouse home happy.

After a Frank Mason III layup cut the lead to 10, the senior star created a steal at the other end before finding Lagerald Vick for a triple to cut the lead to seven. It was officially time to start panicking if you were rooting for the Sooners.

Despite fielding an extremely young team, Oklahoma weathered the original surge well, scoring immediately after the Vick triple to retake a nine-point advantage. Josh Jackson then flashed the athleticism that has NBA scouts drooling, throwing down a massive alley-oop cram off an in-bounds pass to bring the lead back to seven. Mason would promptly steal the in-bounds pass and hit Vick for another triple. And just like that, the lead was four.

A couple minutes later, the Jayhawks had cut the lead to two and it was time for Devonte' Graham to stunt on the young Sooners. The 6-foot-2 junior canned a deep corner three to give Kansas the lead, and soaked in the roars from the raucous crowd like a gladiator in the Coliseum.

At this point, anyone who has watched Big 12 basketball this season knew the game was over, but Graham wasn't done with his dramatics. The Jayhawks sharpshooter set up shop in the other corner this time, taking yet another feed from Mason and splashing home an encore triple. He celebrated the make by skipping back down the court in front of the adoring crowd.

Mason, on his senior night, fittingly delivered the exclamation point, doing his best Steph Curry dribbling exhibition before banking home a fadeaway jumper to push the lead to 11. He finished with 23 points and six assists, and left the Phog Allen Fieldhouse court for the final time after an epic performance.
