Texas' leading scorer Tevin Mack kicked off team

Jeffrey Becker / USA TODAY Sports

After suspending leading scorer Tevin Mack back in January, Texas coach Shaka Smart confirmed on Monday that the sophomore will be released, according to Brian Davis of the Austin American-Statesman.

Mack was originally suspended for a violation of team rules on Jan. 12 and had not played since. He was also suspended for an undisclosed violation of team rules for the season opener due to transgressions committed in the summer.

In 15 games this season, Mack averaged 14.8 points and 4.8 rebounds. As a freshman, the South Carolina native averaged 5.1 points and two rebounds.
