Attorney: Creighton's Watson Jr. has turned himself into police

Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

Just hours after the Omaha Police issued a statement saying Maurice Watson Jr. was dodging law enforcement on a first-degree sexual assault warrant, the attorney for the Creighton star confirmed that he has turned himself in.

Mallory Hughes, attorney for the Bluejays point guard, said Watson was traveling back from Philadelphia with his family all weekend, and was not dodging law enforcement.

"That's a trip that takes hours and hours," Hughes told Kevin Cole of the Omaha World-Herald. "He was never dodging police."

Hughes told Cole that there were multiple reasons for the delay in the journey, including a snowstorm and Watson's need to take constant breaks due to his torn ACL that ended his season in mid-January.

Watson is currently in Douglas County Jail awaiting a bail hearing that should happen either Monday or Tuesday.
