The Seattle Sounders are close to acquiring the signature of Keisuke Honda, with Jeff Carlisle of ESPN FC reporting that the reigning MLS Cup champions have a "better than 50-50 chance" of signing the Japan star from AC Milan.

Carlisle goes on to report that Honda would be paid in the range of $1 million to $1.5 million, and would thus occupy the third and final Designated Player spot on the Sounders' roster.

The 30-year-old has seen his role in Milan reduced as of late, limited to just five appearances this season with the Rossoneri, despite featuring 29 times and scoring six goals in the 2014-15 season.

The 86-times capped Japan international is slated to join Seattle on a two-year contract.
