McIlroy responds to criticism over golfing with President Trump

Mark Konezny / USA TODAY Sports

Rory McIlroy has had a busy week for someone who hasn't played an event in over a month.

McIlory hit the links with President Donald Trump last Sunday morning at Trump International Golf Club, and has received criticism throughout the week for playing with the 45th president.

The world No. 3 responded Friday via Twitter on why he accepted the invitation, saying that playing golf with the president wasn't an endorsement of his political views.

Ernie Els and Tiger Woods have also played with Trump since he was elected last November.
