Buccaneers reach settlement with former kicker in MRSA lawsuit

Kim Klement / USA TODAY Sports

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have reached a settlement with former kicker Lawrence Tynes in a lawsuit related to the team's 2013 MRSA outbreak, according to Hillsborough County court records obtained by Greg Auman of The Tampa Bay Times.

Tynes, who had his NFL career cut short after contracting Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus at the Buccaneers facility, claimed negligence in filing to sue the organization for $20 million in 2015.

Official terms of the settlement were not disclosed.

Tynes had joined Tampa Bay for the first time in 2013, but the infection prevented him from ever playing for the team.

He'd previously spent time with both the Kansas City Chiefs and New York Giants, where he converted on 190-of-233 field goal attempts for a career mark of 81.5 percent.
