Lance McCullers is keeping a part of his late friend Jose Fernandez with him on the mound this season.

The Houston Astros starter revealed Monday he will take to his starts wearing an orange Wilson A2K glove, the same model used by the fallen pitcher last season:

The Astros starter also has more gloves on the way from Wilson in different color themes to pay tribute to Fernandez.

"He's got a little more flare than I usually have," McCullers told MLB.com's Brian McTaggart. "It's all orange with a little bit of blue in there. Like I said, I have a couple of other gloves coming. One that's black with a little bit of orange on it. One that's really electric blue that used he used as well.

"I'll have a couple of different gloves throughout the year, maybe that I'll use in Miami and that kind of stuff for me personally."

McCullers and Fernandez's friendship stems back to their days as teenagers, when the pair would work out in Florida shortly after Fernandez defected from Cuba at the age of 15.

"I knew him pretty much right when he came over from Cuba in Tampa," McCullers told reporters shortly after Fernandez's tragic death in September. "We started training together in the summers and offseasons, and that kind of developed into a really good friendship that had been kept up with ever since."
