Braves' Rodriguez 'grateful and blessed' family alive after crash
It could have been a lot worse for Sean Rodriguez.
On Jan. 28, the new Atlanta Braves infielder, his wife, and two sons were in Rodriguez's SUV when it was T-boned by a stolen police cruiser while driving in Miami.
Rodriguez suffered a severely torn rotator cuff in the accident that may rule him out for the 2017 season, but being able to still see his family is all that matters right now to the utility man.
"My wife and my kids are alive and I get to kiss them and say goodnight to them and love them every day, so for that I'm just grateful and blessed," Rodriguez told David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "So it's hard to look at any of the negatives or the bad stuff."
According to O'Brien, Rodriguez was driving to watch his nephews play baseball, with his two young daughters riding in another car, when they were struck. His older son was hospitalized with a fractured right arm and orbital bone, while his wife Giselle fractured her leg in two different spots and required surgery to repair a wrist injury.
Still, he's relieved at how strong they've been following the ordeal.
"They're doing amazing right now," Rodriguez told O'Brien. "You wouldn't even know it by how they're getting around. My wife's doing really good. (The) emotional (aspect) was my biggest worry and she's 10 times stronger than me.
"I told her, you had four kids, this is a piece of cake. She's been amazing."
