The Miami Dolphins and Jacksonville Jaguars are working to finalize a trade involving Dolphins left tackle Branden Albert and Jaguars tight end Julius Thomas, according to Omar Kelly of The Sun-Sentinel.

A prospective trade cannot be finalized until March 9, when the league's new year commences.

The Dolphins initially planned to release Albert, but ruled against it after garnering trade interest.

Albert appeared to confirm that a potential trade was imminent.

"Why ruffle feathers when you don't have to?" Albert said. "It's the business of the game. I honestly believe where I'm going to go is the right fit. It is going to be a surprise when (the terms) comes out.

Albert has two years remaining on his contract and is owed $8.8 million in base salary for the 2017 season.

Thomas signed a five-year, $46-million contract with the Jaguars in March 2015. The 28-year-old will earn $7 million in base salary for the 2017 season.
