Bellator to auction Fedor's famous sweater for charity
Fedor Emelianenko may not have had the chance to fight on Saturday, but he wasn't going to leave everyone hanging.
"The Last Emperor" was removed from the main event of Bellator 172 in San Jose after opponent Matt Mitrione was forced out with an illness and the promotion was unable to throw together a replacement bout. Emelianenko instead spent much of the night chatting with fans and signing autographs.
Afterward, he showed up at the post-fight press conference to make a special announcement alongside company president Scott Coker. Emelianenko's famous sweater (popularly known as "The Glorious Sweater of Absolute Victory") will be put up for auction with the proceeds going to charity, Coker announced.
The otherwise inconspicuous garment has become the stuff of legend due to its prominence in Emelianenko's storied career, to the point that a tongue-in-cheek video featuring the sweater was released prior to Bellator 172:
As disappointed as Fedor followers were not to get to see their hero in action, one lucky fan could soon own an integral piece of his success.
