Report: Rays showing interest in converted knuckleballer Wilson

It's only been a week since former All-Star closer Brian Wilson announced his intention to make a big-league comeback as a knuckleball pitcher, and he's reportedly already drawing interest from at least one club.

The Tampa Bay Rays are interested in the 34-year-old, according to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times.

Once a hard-throwing reliever whose fastball sat in the mid-90s, Wilson tinkered with a knuckleball throughout his career, and recently showed it off during a 30-pitch bullpen session. He's also reportedly thrown in front of two big-league teams.

Wilson last pitched in the majors in 2014 with the Los Angeles Dodgers, posting a 4.66 ERA during 61 games before being released by the club that December.

During his prime, the pitcher, who was famous for wearing a large, bushy black beard, saved 171 games for the San Francisco Giants.

His career was derailed after the 2011 season, when he underwent his second Tommy John surgery.

Over nine years in the big leagues, Wilson owns a 3.30 ERA and has converted 172 saves in 394 appearances.
