Dodgers, Romo finalize 1-year, $3M deal

Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Dodgers officially signed right-handed reliever Sergio Romo to a one-year, $3-million deal Wednesday.

In a corresponding move to make room on the 40-man roster, the Dodgers placed right-hander Yimi Garcia on the 60-day disabled list.

Romo's decision to join the club was due to his desire to remain on the West Coast after nine years with the San Francisco Giants. Additionally, Romo reportedly took less money to sign in Los Angeles, as the Tampa Bay Rays were believed to have offered the 33-year-old more in annual salary.

The veteran is a nice get for the Dodgers as his versatility and experience should benefit a team poised to compete for a World Series.

Last season, Romo posted a 2.64 ERA in 40 appearances with a 1.07 WHIP. He also has significant experience closing games with 84 career saves with the Giants from 2012-2014.
