Titans' Mariota likely out until training camp

The Tennessee Titans will exercise extreme caution with quarterback Marcus Mariota and don't expect him back at practice until training camp, head coach Mike Mularkey suggested.

In an interview on The Midday 180 on Wednesday, Mularkey said Mariota is "on schedule" in his recovery from a broken fibula, according to ESPN's Paul Kuharsky.

"I saw some video of him in a pool, one of the treadmills that are now designed to keep the weight off but you can still walk. That was good to see, him walking on that treadmill."

Mularkey wouldn't put a timetable on Mariota's return, but hinted that it's unlikely the third-year passer will take part in OTAs or minicamp.

"I think we're going to be really smart about how we handle him and probably be overly cautious," Mularkey said.

Missing spring work could slow Mariota's development a bit, but the Titans are wise to look at the big picture. As long as they have their franchise player back by the start of training camp, there's no reason to believe Mariota can't pick up where he left off last season.
