The San Francisco 49ers are expected to hire Robert Saleh as the defensive coordinator on Kyle Shanahan's coaching staff, ESPN's Adam Caplan reports, citing a source.
Saleh lands with the 49ers after spending the last three seasons as a linebackers coach with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was one of many assistants released from their contracts when Doug Marrone was hired to replace Gus Bradley as head coach in January.
Prior to his stint in Jacksonvile, Saleh spent time in lower-level positions with the Seattle Seahawks and Houston Texans.
Saleh is now tasked with turning around a 49ers defense that ranked last in both yards and points allowed en route to a 2-14 finish in 2016.
