Toni Nadal to leave Rafa's coaching camp at season's end

The 2017 season will be the last Rafael Nadal plays with his uncle in his coaching box.

Toni Nadal has been his nephew's primary coach for his entire career, but with the recent addition of Carlos Moya to the Nadal camp, and Toni's desire to spend more time working at Rafa's academy in Mallorca, the two decided to end their partnership at year's end.

"From next year I will no longer follow Rafael on the circuit but will dedicate myself exclusively to our academy," Toni said in an interview with Il Tennis Italiano, as translated by The Telegraph.

"The relationship with my nephew has always been excellent, in all these years we have never had periods of crisis. ... (But) the truth is that every year I am making fewer decisions, to the point that I won't be deciding anything anymore."

Nadal's first major tournament with Moya in his box went about as well as anyone could've hoped, with the 30-year-old making his first Slam final since 2014, falling to Roger Federer in five sets at the Australian Open.

Nadal's partnership with Uncle Toni has produced 14 major titles - tied with Pete Sampras for second all time - including a record nine French Open crowns.
