Barcelona's Pique, Turan ruled out of Alaves clash

ALBERT GEA / Reuters

Gerard Pique and Arda Turan will be unavailable for selection ahead of Barcelona's match against Alaves after missing Friday's training session.

The pair were left off manager Luis Enrique's 18-man squad that will travel to Vitoria on Saturday as they continue to nurse their respective injuries.

Despite making an appearance during Barca's midweek draw with Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey, Pique continues to deal with a thigh injury that he initially suffered during a 3-0 win over Athletic Bilbao last week.

The club also revealed that Turan has been sidelined because of a groin problem.

A timetable for either player's return has not been announced.

Meanwhile, the likes of Rafinha and Javier Mascherano will also miss the game because of a broken nose and a hamstring knock, respectively.

Samuel Umtiti and Jeremy Mathieu are expected to deputise Pique and Mascherano at centre-back.

Barcelona currently sits one point off the top of the table, but leaders Real Madrid, who faces Liga basement dwellers Osasuna, has two games in hand.
