Pebble Beach Pro-Am Round 1 suspended due to weather

Thursday's opening round of the Pebble Beach Pro-Am has been suspended due to inclement weather.

Rick Lamb, Joel Dahmen, and Seung-Yul Noh were tied for the lead at 4-under par when play was called.

Players battled heavy winds and rain all day, with just 36 of the 156-man field finding red numbers when play was halted.

"Very pleased," Sam Saunders said after a round of 69. "Anything under par today is a really good round. Very fortunate to get finished before they called play out there."

"It was obviously very tough today," said Shane Lowry. "The holes along the water are really tough, but the others are as well."

Lowry, who's used to the inclement weather in his native Ireland, knows what is needed to navigate a course under those conditions, shooting a 2-under par 70 in his first round.

"It's just something that I know how to do. I find that when it's like this I can deal with it pretty good. When I saw the forecast this week, obviously I wasn't too excited about it, but I knew I would be able to deal with it well."

The weather made it difficult on everyone, including Dustin Johnson, who reportedly hit driver, 3-wood, 4-iron, and still didn't reach the 599-yard par-5 12th at Monterey Peninsula.

Matt Every and Patrick Hamill lead the Pro-Am division at 10-under par, two ahead of Dahmen and Willy Strothotte.

The first round will recommence Friday at 7:30 a.m. PST.
