Rafael Nadal won't rule out taking Real Madrid presidency
Keen Real Madrid fan and tennis great Rafael Nadal said he won't discount becoming president of the famed Santiago Bernabeu outfit in the future.
When the 14-time Grand Slam winner initially made huge strides on the clay court as a youngster just after the turn of the century, it soon became apparent he was a fervent Los Blancos follower. This is despite his uncle, Miguel Angel Nadal, representing Clasico rival Barcelona for eight years.
"If you ask me if I would like it, of course I would, why not?" Nadal told El Mundo of a potential spell as Real president, as reported by The Evening Standard's Sam Long. "But there is more to it - I think it will not be."
Nadal missed out on another Grand Slam title to old adversary Roger Federer in last month's five-set thriller at the Australian Open and subsequently sat out Spain's 3-2 defeat of Croatia in the Davis Cup to recuperate.
With some time to spare recently, the 30-year-old unsurprisingly turned his attention to his other love: Real Madrid. Zinedine Zidane's side was surprisingly dumped from the Copa del Rey by Celta Vigo in January, but possesses a one-point advantage and two games in hand over second-placed Barcelona in La Liga.
"We are very good as we are," the Mallorca-born buggy-whipper continued. "We have a great president right now and I don't think Real Madrid need me, but we never know what can happen in the future."
Real Madrid travels to Osasuna in Saturday's La Liga match before hosting high-scoring Napoli in the first leg of its Champions League Round of 16 meeting next Wednesday.
