Army fines, suspends DC Jay Bateman for role in 'WakeyLeaks' scandal

Danny Wild-USA TODAY Sports

Army fined defensive coordinator Jay Bateman $25,000 and suspended him two weeks for his role in the "WakeyLeaks" scandal, as per a statement obtained by Andrea Adelson of ESPN.

The scandal revolves around former Wake Forest radio broadcaster Tommy Elrod leaking game plans to upcoming opponents, most notably prior to a Nov. 12 game versus Louisville.

Wake Forest contacted Army during its investigation in December, prompting Black Knights athletic director Boo Coorigan to launch an inquiry of his own.

Bateman's penalties appear to be the result of Coorigan's findings.

Army defeated Wake Forest 21-13 on the road this season, but lost the previous two matchups.
