Baylor fires strength coach after solicitation arrest

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

Baylor strength and conditioning coach Brandon Washington was arrested Saturday on a solicitation of prostitution charge, McLennan County police confirmed to Tommy Witherspoon of the Waco Tribune.

A statement from Baylor's athletic department confirmed the news, and Washington's firing for the arrest.

"After a full criminal background check was completed and cleared, Brandon Washington was recently hired as an assistant in the Football Strength and Conditioning area. Baylor was notified on Feb. 4 of Brandon Washington’s arrest and terminated his employment immediately that day."

Washington came over from Temple with head coach Matt Rhule, where he also served as a strength coach.

"When we arrived at Baylor we made a commitment to character and integrity in our program," Rhule said. "Brandon’s actions are completely unacceptable. We will not tolerate conduct that is contradictory to these values."

The news comes as Rhule is trying to clean up the program's image, after a sexual assault scandal saw former head coach Art Briles fired. Briles was let go after an investigation into how the program handled allegations of sexual assault made against players.
