Report: Justin Masterson to hold showcase in late February

It's been nearly four years since Justin Masterson was an All-Star as the Cleveland Indians' staff ace, but the right-hander appears ready to show Major League Baseball he's got plenty left in the tank.

Masterson is heading to Arizona next week to start a throwing program and will hold a showcase in late February for several teams, reports Paul Hoynes of Cleveland.com.

The 31-year-old last pitched in the big leagues in 2015, recording a 5.61 ERA during 18 appearances - nine starts - for the Boston Red Sox.

He spent 2016 in the Pittsburgh Pirates' organization, posting a 4.97 ERA in 25 appearances at Triple-A Indianapolis after recovering from shoulder surgery.

Masterson is "fully healthy for the first time in a while," according to Jon Heyman of FanRagSports, and has already drawn interest from the Miami Marlins and Minnesota Twins.

Over the course of eight big-league seasons, the former second-round draft choice has played for the Indians, Red Sox, and St. Louis Cardinals, posting a 64-74 record with a 4.31 ERA and 1.40 WHIP across 258 appearances, 184 of which have been starts.
