Free-agent pitcher Henderson Alvarez hasn't appeared in a major-league game since May of 2015 thanks to multiple surgeries on the shoulder and bicep of his throwing arm, but he still appears enticing enough of a target for teams to check in on.

Many teams have requested medical information on the 26-year-old right-hander, according to Jon Heyman of FanRagSports, who reports the Venezuelan should be game ready by May.

After suffering his initial injury on his shoulder in 2015, Alvarez was shut down - and eventually non-tendered - by the Miami Marlins before catching on with the Oakland Athletics last season.

It appeared he was on the right track back to the majors before pain resurfaced in his surgically repaired shoulder and he was again shut down for the season after a second procedure on the area.

Before his shoulder issues, Alvarez twice tossed 187-plus innings in a season, doing so for the Marlins in 2014 and Toronto Blue Jays in 2012.

In '14, Alvarez had the best season of his career, posting a 12-7 record with a 2.65 ERA, and was an All-Star.

Over the course of his five-year career, he owns a 27-34 mark, with a 3.80 ERA and 1.29 WHIP.
