This week's winners and losers in the golf world

Winners:

Jon Rahm

Jon Rahm seized his first PGA Tour win in dramatic fashion Sunday at the Farmers Insurance Open. Rahm posted a 7-under-par 65 and a back nine 30 to win by three shots over Charles Howell III and C.T. Pan. Rahm made two eagles over his final six holes, and showed his talent on the par-5 18th with three incredible swings.

Class of 2011

Not the actual PGA Tour Class of 2011, but players that were still in high school that year. Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, Patrick Rodgers, and Ollie Schniederjans. The accomplishments of Spieth and Thomas are already known, but Rodgers had a share of the lead heading into Sunday and Schniederjans was also in mix. Both finished in the top 10 for the week, and the list of young talent continues to grow.

Torrey Pines

The North and the South courses stood up to an elite field of golfers, thanks to deep thick rough and breezy conditions. The weekend gave those who made the cut ideal weather, but the South course was up to the test. The winners, Jon Rahm and Justin Rose had the two lowest rounds of the week with 65s. Rose's came on the North course and Rahm's came on Sunday. The #59Watch was nowhere to be seen on social media this week.

Golf fans

So it only lasted two days, but having Tiger Woods back was exciting for every golf fan. Regardless of the struggles on the course, Woods is still a commanding presence wherever he plays. We'll also get to see Tiger playing a lot in the next four weeks, with three events on his schedule.

Mark Johnson

Mark who? Mark Johnson is not a professional golfer, but he's a persistent individual. Johnson tweeted Sergio Garcia for 206 days asking to caddie for him, and just when Johnson was about to give up his dream, the Spaniard cracked. Garcia will allow the fan to loop for him at the British Masters pro-am in September.

Losers:

Tiger Woods' driver

Woods missed half the fairways this week, and went 0-for-7 on the back nine Thursday. Tiger's miss was generally to the right, and the problem was where the club rested at the top of the swing. Tiger would set up for a fade, but the golf club was laid off at the top of the swing and with an inside path towards the ball coming down that resulted in a push. With Torrey Pines playing like a U.S. Open, the misses made it nearly impossible to score well. He'll be playing more over the next four weeks, and he'll no doubt have it figured out sooner, rather than later.

Rory McIlroy's health

McIllory told Shane Bacon that he can't run, only walk and do some putting, due to the rib injury he suffered at Abu Dhabi. The world No. 2 stated that the WGC-Mexico Championship in March will likely be the return date.

Jaco Van zyl

Van zyl hit two gorgeous shots in the playoff at the Qatar Masters and was in prime position to win his first European tour event. The South African came up short with his eagle putt and then was unable to make his 6-footer for birdie, leading to his second three-putt of the round. Van zyl's runner-up finish is his fifth in his European Tour career. Jeunghun Wang would get up-and-down for birdie and take the title.

Pace of play

The pace during the first two rounds was glacial, and painful to watch. the grouping of Jason Day, Dustin Johnson, and Tiger Woods played in over five hours on Thursday, and it wasn't much better on Friday.
