Who is Ollie Schniederjans?

Orlando Ramirez-USA TODAY Sports

If you scrolled the leaderboard at the Farmers Insurance Open, you didn't have to go far down to find the name Ollie Schniederjans.

Schniederjans shot a 1-under-par 71 and sits two back of Patrick Rodgers entering Sunday's final round.

So, who is this guy?

The 23-year-old was born in Dallas, Texas but grew up in Georgia and attended Georgia Tech, the same school Bobby Jones went to. While playing for the Yellow Jackets, Schniederjans was ACC Player of the Year twice and was named first-team All-American in his final two years.

Schniederjans was the No. 1-ranked amateur in the world in 2014 and claimed the Mark H. McCormack medal for the accomplishment. Colt Knost, Danny Lee, Nick Taylor, and Jon Rahm have also won the award as the top amateur in the world at year's end.

In 2015 he joined Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson as the only amateurs to make the cut in the U.S. Open and British Open in the same year since 1960. At the conclusion of the Open Championship at St. Andrews, he turned professional and made his debut at the Canadian Open the following week, where he tied for 22nd place.

When he grabbed his first professional win at the Web.com Tour's 2016 Air Capital Classic, Schniederans got a pretty cool letter from golf legend Arnold Palmer.

If it's possible to have a trademark this early in his career, it would be that Schniederjans doesn't wear a hat like most players do, opting for the old-school look.

Like most young guns, he can absolutely bomb it off the tee. He's second in average distance off the tee for the week at Torrey Pines but provided the longest dive of the week, with a 355-yard missile at the par-5 13th in the opening round.

When needed, he can also scramble.

Another week, another young player introducing himself to golf fans.
