Vikings' Patterson hoping to find more playing time through free agency

Minnesota Vikings return specialist Cordarrelle Patterson is actively looking forward to testing free agency for the first time this spring.

Patterson, selected in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft, was named to the Pro Bowl and a first-team All-Pro for the second time in his career in 2016, after submitting a resurgent campaign.

Ahead of free agency, Patterson is seeking more playing time after he sank on the depth chart as a wide receiver during the 2014 and 2015 campaigns.

"Of course, man. Two years I spent damn near on the sideline. That's never a good feeling for any player. No player wants to go through that," Patterson said via NFL.com's Conor Orr. "I need to know if I'm going to play or not. If not, I'll take my talents elsewhere."

Patterson couldn't hold back his excitement with free agency on the horizon, noting that he'd prefer to stay with the Vikings.

"It's kind of exciting," Patterson said. "I've never been a free agent. It's just like coming out of college again. You never know what's going to happen. You never know where you're going to go. It's a lot of excitement to me. It'll feel good to lay around for a little bit and kick my feet up."
