Jones: Cowboys 'need to cool it' with public Romo talk

Now that the Dallas Cowboys' season is over, it appears owner Jerry Jones has had his fun poking the fires of his team's quarterback situation.

Despite admitting during the season to intentionally fueling speculation regarding Dak Prescott's position as starter and Tony Romo's potential return to the lineup, Jones said Tuesday it's now time for the Cowboys to keep their cards close to their chests about Romo's future.

"I'm not going to get into that at all - whether we've talked or not," Jones said, according to David Helman of the Cowboys' official site. "We're at a juncture now that, we need to just cool it in our public conversations about what we're going to be doing or not doing there with Tony."

Despite the fact that it was Jones who was ironically the only member of the Cowboys organization to keep discussing Romo with the media, his logic is understandable.

Romo is the Cowboys' prized asset for the offseason, and Dallas likely won't want his value hurt by allowing the rest of the league to know the inner workings of the situation.

While this arguably should have been the philosophy ever since Romo was cleared to return, Jones usually plays by his own rules.
