The Kansas City Royals issued a statement confirming the death of 25-year-old pitcher Yordano Ventura, who was killed in a car accident Sunday in his native Dominican Republic:

"Our prayers right now are with Yordano's family as we mourn this young man's passing," Dayton Moore, the Royals' senior vice president of baseball operations and general manager said in the release. "He was so young and so talented, full of youthful exuberance and always brought a smile to everyone he interacted with.

"We will get through this as an organization, but right now is a time to mourn and celebrate the life of Yordano."

Ventura appeared in 94 games for the Royals from 2013-16. He spent his entire MLB career with Kansas City.
