The Washington Redskins are set to promote outside linebackers coach Greg Manusky to defensive coordinator, sources told NFL Network's Mike Garofalo and Ian Rapoport.

It's Manusky's fourth DC job, having led defenses for the San Francisco 49ers, San Diego Chargers, and Indianapolis Colts since 2007.

The Redskins fired former DC Joe Barry along with the majority of his staff following a season in which the team ranked 28th in total defense.

Washington's offense was third-best in the league, and the team's failure to make the playoffs was primarily blamed on its porous defense.

Manusky-led defenses have failed to finish as a top-ten unit in each of his nine seasons as a coordinator.
