McElwain: Florida will 'kick the door down' in Atlanta next season

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Even after winning back-to-back SEC East titles and earning berths into the past two SEC Championship games, fans and pundits alike have chipped away at Florida and head coach Jim McElwain.

That's mostly due to their 0-2 record, both at the hands of Alabama, and being outscored 83-31 in the conference championship games.

However, next season will be different, according to McElwain, who spoke to the crowd at a Gators basketball game against Vanderbilt with six of his players on hand.

"It's because of the energy like this that we were able to go undefeated in The Swamp and we were able to go back to Atlanta in back-to-back years," McElwain said. "And it's because of these guys, that when we get back to Atlanta this next season, we're going to kick the door down."

Defense has not been an issue for the Gators during McElwain's tenure. Just like predecessor Will Muschamp, finding a quarterback and offense has proved to be more difficult.
