Jesus, Kompany named on City bench for Spurs test

Pep Guardiola has named an attacking lineup for Manchester City's visit from Tottenham Hotspur, but it's two players - one new, one old - on the bench that are grabbing the headlines.

Nineteen-year-old Brazil international Gabriel Jesus is among the substitutes at the Etihad Stadium, where he'll sit alongside captain Vincent Kompany in the Belgian's latest comeback attempt from a horrendous spate of injuries over the past few seasons.

With Yaya Toure identified as the sole defensive midfielder, it appears to be a forward-thinking XI selected by Guardiola. Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling are manning the wings, with Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva operating in the middle behind Sergio Aguero.

In the centre-half positions are the susceptible Aleksandar Kolarov and Nicolas Otamendi, with John Stones waiting in reserve.

Mauricio Pochettino, meanwhile, has again opted for three at back for Spurs. Following news of Jan Vertonghen's six-week layoff, Kevin Wimmer is preferred ahead of Ben Davies in defence.
