Report: Manchester City appeals amount of Sagna's £40K fine

Three days ago, the English Football Association (FA) fined Manchester City £40,000 due to the social media conduct of defender Bacary Sagna, but that's too high a price to pay, believes the well-heeled club.

It's why City has reportedly appealed the decision, specifically the amount of the fine itself, and not the validity, reports the Press Association.

The FA issued its recourse as a result of Sagna posting a photo Jan. 2 on Instagram with the caption partly reading "10 against 12," a comment English football's governing body deduced was inappropriately referencing Lee Mason's refereeing during City's 2-1 triumph over Burnley.

Though Sagna later edited the initial part of his caption to leave behind only its second half - "still fighting and winning as a team" - the FA decided to proceed with its inquiry.

Fines issued by the FA are often set as a result of a player's salary and earnings, but City has the right to appeal, and as such the FA will have to set a date for a hearing.
