Minnesota has convinced four-star center Daniel Oturu to stay close to home, as the Golden Gophers landed a commitment from the state's No. 1 prospect on Thursday.

Along with his No. 1 ranking in the state of Minnesota, Oturu is ranked as the fifth-best center in the country for the class of 2018 by ESPN.

He becomes the first player committed to Minnesota for the class of 2018, and his commitment should help head coach Richard Pitino in his attempt to secure other top in-state players such as Tre Jones.

Oturu had a number of top programs interested in his services, as Baylor, Kansas, Creighton and Memphis had all offered scholarships to the 6-foot-7, 205-pounder.
