Report: LSU to pay OC Matt Canada $1.5 million per year

Nelson Chenault-US PRESSWIRE

LSU has entrusted Matt Canada as the man to run its offense, and the former Pitt coordinator is going to be well-compensated as he does so.

According to documents obtained by Ross Dellenger of The Advocate, Canada will be paid $1.5 million per year to run the Tigers' offense.

His base salary will be $500,000, with the extra $1 million coming from media rights compensation and other sources. The 41-year-old isn't the only coordinator to hit the $1.5 million mark, as the Tigers defensive coordinator Dave Aranda signed a new deal in December that will pay him $1.8 million per season.

LSU, Alabama, and Texas A&M all led the country in coordinator pay last season, at $2.5 million for each program, so it's probably a safe bet that the $3.3 million the Tigers will be paying next season is the highest in college football history.
