Mickelson to return for CareerBuilder Challenge

Thomas J. Russo-USA TODAY Sports

Phil Mickelson is set to return, as the world No. 22 will play this week's CareerBuilder Challenge, he confirmed to Jonathan Wall of PGATour.com.

Mickelson is coming off two hernia surgeries and hasn't played since October at the Safeway Open. This week's event will kick off his 2017 campaign.

"I feel good and I want to play," Mickelson said. "I don't know where my game is, but I figure the only way to find out is to play."

Lefty serves as the tournament's ambassador, and he's won the event twice.

Despite no victories in 2016, Mickelson, 46, is coming off a strong campaign during which he was the runner-up three times and recorded six top-10 finishes.
