Swansea brokers return for Tom Carroll from Tottenham

Swansea City has signed Tom Carroll from Tottenham Hotspur on a permanent basis, two seasons on from his successful loan stay in south Wales.

The 24-year-old inked a three-and-a-half-year contract at the Liberty Stadium for a fee believed last week to be in the region of £8 million. More recent accounts from BBC Sport, however, report the amount to be in the region of £4.5 million.

He follows in the wake of Martin Olsson, who joined from Norwich City for around £5 million earlier on Tuesday, and ex-PSV Eindhoven winger Luciano Narsingh, a £4-million arrival last week.

"It's been a couple of years since I've been here - there have been some changes - but I'm excited to be back," said Carroll, who found first-team opportunities at Spurs difficult to come by despite signing professional terms back in 2010.

"It definitely helps knowing quite a few of the lads from my loan spell, while I know (assistant coach) Nigel Gibbs and (head of physical performance) Karl Halabi too."

Carroll will supplement Gylfi Sigurdsson and Leroy Fer in the midfield - two of the more commendable performers for bottom-placed Swansea this season - ahead of Saturday's trip to title-chasing Liverpool.
