Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll's admission Monday that cornerback Richard Sherman played through the second half of the season with a significant MCL injury came as a surprise to fans and analysts everywhere.

Sherman wasn't listed on the team's injury report, although he did miss some practices due to what the team deemed rest.

Carroll said he didn't realize that his interview Monday was the first time the public knew about Sherman's injury.

"Honestly, I didn't realize we hadn't revealed it," Carroll said via ESPN's Sheil Kapadia. "I don't even remember what game it was. It was somewhere in the middle - I don't know. He was fine about it. He didn't miss anything. The same with (quarterback) Russell (Wilson). He was fine about it. I don't know how they do that, but they did."

Carroll admitted fault for not revealing Sherman's injury earlier, noting that the four-time Pro Bowler didn't miss a game. Sherman hasn't missed a contest during his six-year career.

"I don't know," Carroll said. "I'm feeling like I screwed that up with not telling you that because that happened, but he was OK. So I don't know. He never missed anything, which is probably why."
