So much for the idea that the NFL's television ratings are on the decline.

Sunday afternoon's thrilling game between the Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys drew an audience of 48.5 million viewers, making it the most-watched divisional-round playoff game in NFL history, according to FOX Sports.

It's also the most-watched TV program in the U.S. since last year's Super Bowl.

The Pittsburgh Steelers' win over the Kansas City Chiefs in a game that was moved from the afternoon to prime time also had huge ratings. According to NBC, the contest was the most-watched prime-time game ever in the divisional and wild-card rounds, with 37.4 million viewers tuning in.

The NFL said before the game it would consider putting future playoff games on Sunday night. It would be a shock if the league doesn't move forward with that plan next year.
