Gottfried: NC State not 'aggressive' enough in loss to Georgia Tech

Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

Mark Gottfried is not happy with how his team played on Sunday.

The NC State head coach expressed his disappointment in his team's effort during his postgame press conference following an 86-76 defeat at the hands of Georgia Tech.

Gottfried focused on two specific areas in which his team was severely lacking, and pulled no punches with what the team needs to do moving forward.

"Our team better learn how to get a little tougher, bottom line," Gottfried said. "We better make a decision, at some point, whether we're going to guard anybody. Real simple. We scored enough points to win the game tonight."

The Yellow Jackets managed to shoot 10-of-16 from 3-point range against the Wolfpack, as well as exploit the interior defense throughout the game.

Gottfried took notice.

"I watched basket go one, after another, after another, after another right at the rim," Gottfried said. "Now, I don't want my team to play dirty, I'm not into that at all, but at some point, I might have to put you on your back. ... I'm talking about being aggressive instead of watching guys get layup after layup after layup; wide-open 3 after wide-open 3 after wide-open 3."

Gottfried's animated response comes days after he told fans in colorful terms that he does not care how fans react to the team losing, following the Wolfpack's defeat to Boston College.
