Memphis promotes RB coach Darrell Dickey to offensive coordinator

Darrell Dickey's effort for Memphis in 2016 impressed head coach Mike Norvell enough to warrant a promotion.

Dickey, who coached the Tigers' running backs last season, was promoted to the role of offensive coordinator effective immediately, the school announced Sunday. Tight ends head coach Ryan Silverfield will take on Dickey's former responsibilities.

"The interest generated by our opening was remarkable," Norvell said in a statement. "But after the process of visiting with a number of coaches and coordinators from a variety of schools and just about every conference across college football, I feel the best option to continue our high standard of offensive success is to promote from within our staff."

Dickey is no stranger to offensive coordinator duties at Memphis, as he spent both 2014 and 2015 as co-offensive coordinator before assuming the duties of associate head coach and running backs coach last season.

"Coach Dickey brings a wealth of experience coordinating explosive offensive units and I believe that with the offensive staff we have in place, the brightest days ahead for the Memphis Tigers' offense," Norvell said.
