Report: Orioles to pay 70-plus unsigned employees
With pitchers and catchers of the Baltimore Orioles set to report to spring training on Feb. 14, 70-plus employees of the franchise who were without contracts for the 2017 season received good news Wednesday.
The employees will be paid Jan. 15, according to major-league sources of FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal, who reports owner Peter Angelos has signed the contracts.
On Tuesday, Rosenthal reported employees across several levels of the baseball operations department - including members of the front office, scouts, and coaches across both the major and minor leagues - had not signed new contracts, which prompted one angry reply from an anonymous unsigned employee.
"I hope we can submit our mortgage payments to the Orioles," the employee told Rosenthal.
Baltimore's payroll currently sits at just over $100 million, according to spotrac, while the franchise was reportedly worth $1 billion at the beginning of last season, according to Forbes.
