McGregor evokes beef between Mayweather, C.J. Watson in latest taunt

Adam Hunger / USA TODAY

Nobody can say Conor McGregor doesn't do his research when it comes to poking fun at his rivals.

On Wednesday, the UFC lightweight champion tweeted out a graphic of him triumphantly standing over a crumpled Mayweather with the caption: "Call me C.J. Watson!"

For those confused by the seemingly random mention of a 10-year NBA backup point guard in regards to Mayweather, McGregor is referring to the role Watson allegedly played in a domestic violence case involving the boxing superstar.

In 2010, Mayweather was accused of attacking ex-girlfriend Josie Harris and threatening to kill her and her new partner. That partner was reportedly Watson (he has since denied any romantic relationship with Harris).

"The Notorious" definitely took the long way around for his latest swipe at Mayweather.
