Report: Dolphins promote LB coach Burke to DC after Joseph's departure

Melina Vastola / USA TODAY Sports

The Miami Dolphins have a new defensive coordinator after the last one was hired to become the Denver Broncos' new head coach.

With Vance Joseph leaving, the Dolphins will promote linebackers coach Matt Burke to oversee the defense, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.

Burke has one season on his Dolphins resume, but over a decade of coaching experience.

The Dolphins finished 29th in the NFL in total defense in 2016. They were 30th against the run and 15th against the pass.
