Cal players found out Dykes was fired on Twitter

Cal surprisingly fired head coach Sonny Dykes on Sunday, and it turns out the Golden Bear players found out about the news on Twitter, just like everybody else.

A report came out about an hour before the news was official, and judging by the players reactions on social media, it was a shock:

Dykes was also shocked by the news, and released a statement shortly after the move for his players.

"I am as surprised as you all about the news today," Dykes said. "I am sorry you all found out he way you did. All I can say is I am incredibly proud of each and every one of you; it has been an honor to be your coach. If you keep working hard and doing things the right way, you will have success in everything you do. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me any time. God Bless."

Cal's season has been done for six weeks, so the decision to wait until January to make the move is certainly puzzling. The delay seems to signal that the administration already has a replacement in mind that they have likely made contact with.
