UCLA officially names Jedd Fisch offensive coordinator

UCLA officially announced former Michigan passing-game coordinator Jedd Fisch as the program's new offensive coordinator Tuesday, three days after it was first reported that Fisch would be taking the position.

Bruins head coach Jim Mora made the announcement and had some high praise for the new man behind his offense.

"Jedd, in a relatively short amount of time, has earned the respect of some of the game's greatest offensive minds," Mora said. "At each of his stops, he has made those teams better while demonstrating a remarkable ability to connect with the young men he has coached. ... We couldn't be more excited and think Jedd is an exceptional fit for this program."

Fisch spoke about relishing the opportunity to be a guiding light for many skilled players, and looks forward to doing that at UCLA.

"UCLA is known for attracting high-caliber and high-character student-athletes," Fisch said. "The opportunity to mentor these types of young men is extremely exciting, as is the chance to work with Coach Mora. I've said many times how fortunate I have been throughout my career to learn from some tremendous mentors, and this opportunity is no different."

Mora later stated that he never tried to seek out any candidates for UCLA's offensive coordinator position that runs a spread offense because he didn't think a national championship was ever won with a predominant spread offense, according to Greg Beacham of The Associated Press.
