Boca Juniors president resigned to idea of losing Tevez

A rags-to-riches tale if there ever was one, Carlos Tevez is reportedly weighing the option of going from riches to record-breaking riches. The product of Fuerte Apache, a barrio in Buenos Aires, Argentina rife with poverty, apparently holds an offer from the Chinese Super League's Shanghai Shenhua valued at no less than £615,000 (approximately $755,000) per week.

Assuming Tevez accepts the offer and the numbers are correct, he will become the world's highest-earning footballer.

In conversation with La Red Radio, Daniel Angelici, Boca Juniors' president, acknowledged there isn't much the club can do, saying it's "almost impossible" Tevez stays at La Bombonera.

"I have a very close relationship with Carlos and my hunch is that it will be very difficult for him not to leave," Angelici claimed, according to La Nacion and as translated by ESPN FC's Adriana Garcia. "As a fan and as the (club) president, I want him to stay, but when one looks at the numbers and the offer that he has from China, it's very strong. It's almost impossible that he will continue."

When Tevez triumphantly returned to Boca in 2015 and was presented in front of roughly 40,000 supporters, he declared: "money doesn't buy happiness." It looked as though he was set to play out the rest of his career in Argentina.

Should Tevez abandon Boca, many will inevitably fault his decision to leave Argentinian football for Chinese waters. But, given Los Xeneizes' 4-1 victory over Club Atletico Colon on Sunday, nothing can come between the player and his boyhood club. Not only did the quasi-successor to Diego Maradona score a goal ...

... but he received a standing ovation and was embraced by a pitch invader upon being replaced in the 89th minute. After the final whistle, he exited the pitch while waving to supporters and touching Boca's shirt. One banner at La Bombonera read: "Forever an idol from Boca to China." The scene certainly had the air of a goodbye.
