Red Sox-Yankees rivalry could be headed to London by 2018

Foggy London town might be on the verge of hosting one of the best rivalries in all of sports.

With the new collective bargaining agreement imposing a rule for the league and players to compete Internationally, talk of the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees facing off in London is starting to gain traction, according to Michael Silverman of the Boston Herald.

Silverman notes that arranging a game between the two storied clubs still poses a challenge, and though it isn't guaranteed, a matchup is still very much a possibility. Along with the Red Sox and Yankees, the New York Mets are another team that could play in London, as it seems certain that the three teams will participate at least once in the next five years.

"The Yankees have been at the forefront of suggesting that we bring the great game of baseball to London," Yankees president Randy Levine said. "There have been some meaningful attempts to do so, and we are hopeful and confident that we can play there soon. Playing the Red Sox in London would be a special and unique event."

Some issues the league needs to workout before finalizing International games are lost revenues from the teams involved. In addition, if a game were to materialize, the Yankees and Red Sox would face off only once.

Any baseball games hosted by London would be played in Olympic Stadium in Stratford, which was built for the 2012 Summer Olympic and Paralympic games.
